This new construction satisfied the client’s request for a house that provides both privacy and a sense of openness. The house has a layered orthogonal layout defined by interlocked spaces, and a zigzagged façade that adapts to the triangular shape of the site. The elongated vistas give a feeling of spaciousness. The thoughtfully positioned openings allow privacy.
Low furniture accentuates the horizontality of a long rectangular space. To further emphasize this type of design, avoid wall-hung cabinets that would obstruct sightlines.
The “rooms” are not enclosed, but rather screened-off by a well-thought-out orthogonal arrangement of walls.
In addition to providing a sense of spaciousness, an open-plan layout allows light from the perimeter to reach the inner reaches of a space.
