Kapoor House

Architect: Swatt | Miers Architects

Location: Berkeley, CA, USA

Photography: Tim Griffith

This house opens up to incredible panoramic views. Its simple design with a minimal palette of materials such as concrete, stucco, wood, stone, and stainless steel, accommodates a complex program while avoiding ostentation. From the frameless windows to the trimless, recessed LED lights, the house is characterized by a precise level of detail.

Use seemless glass panel guardrails to maximize views.

Wood can be a good finish for a ceiling and is an alternative to a painted finish. Like hardwood floors, a wood ceiling provides a sense of warmth and comfort.

Clerestories or high windows visually separate the walls from the ceiling, providing an effect of lightness. Because they are high up in the wall, privacy is maintained.

Sliding panels can dramatically transform a space. They can be used to close off large openings or separate spaces with different functions.
